Congratulations on your new baby! One of the first things you will want to do is give them their first bath. Bathing a baby can seem like a daunting task, but with this checklist, it will be easy! We have everything you need from baby bathtubs to baby shampoo. Keep reading for more information on how to bathe your little one safely and effectively.
Bath Supplies
First, you will need to gather all of the supplies you need for the baby’s bath. You will need:
A Baby Bath Tub
There are many different baby bathtubs on the market. You will want to choose one that is comfortable for you and your baby. There are inflatable baby bathtubs, baby bath seats, and even baby baths that go right in your sink! When choosing a baby bathtub, make sure that it is the right size for your baby and that it has a slip-resistant bottom.
Soap and Shampoo
You will want to use a baby-specific soap or shampoo when bathing your baby. These products are designed to be gentle on a baby’s skin and hair. The soap and shampoo you use should be specifically made for the baby’s delicate skin, as your normal shampoo and soaps will be too harsh. Look for hypoallergenic soaps that do not contain any synthetic fragrances, dyes, or other harsh chemicals.
A Soft Hooded Towel
You will need a soft towel to dry the baby off after their bath. Make sure the towel is big enough to wrap the baby up in and that it is soft enough to not irritate their skin. A hooded towel is perfect for baby’s bath time, as it will help keep them warm after their bath.
A Gentle Baby Washcloth
You will need a soft baby washcloth to wash the baby’s face and body. Look for a baby washcloth that is made of natural fibers, such as cotton. Avoid using washcloths that are made of synthetic materials, as these can be too harsh on a baby’s skin.
Bath Toys
If you want, you can add some bath toys to the baby’s bath time. Bath toys can help make the experience more fun for babies and can also help them learn and develop new skills. Just be sure to choose bath toys that are made of non-toxic materials and that do not have small parts that could come off and become a choking hazard. Also look for bath toys that do not have holes in them, as these can fill up with water and become a breeding ground for bacteria. There are plenty of options that can open up, or you can also close up the holes with a little bit of hot glue!
Bath Time
Now that you have gathered all of the supplies you need, it is time to start the baby’s bath! Fill the tub with warm water, being careful not to make it too hot. Test the water with your hand before putting the baby in to make sure it is not too hot. Gently lower the baby into the tub and start washing them with the baby washcloth. Be sure to avoid the baby’s face when washing them, as they can be sensitive to soap. Once the baby is clean, lift them out of the tub and wrap them up in the hooded towel. Gently pat them dry and then dress them in clean clothes.
Bath Time Tips
Here are a few tips to make baby’s bath time go smoothly:
- If you are using a baby bath seat, make sure that it is securely fastened to the tub before putting the baby in it.
- Never leave the baby unattended in the tub, even for a second. Always stay within arm’s reach in case they need you.
- If the baby seems to be enjoying their bath, you can extend their bath time by a few minutes. Just be sure to keep an eye on the water temperature so that it does not get too cold.
- If the baby starts to cry or seems uncomfortable, end the bath immediately and try again another day.
Bathing a baby can seem like a daunting task, but with this checklist, it will be easy! Gather all of the supplies you need and then follow the steps above to give your baby a safe and effective bath. Your little one will love spending time in the tub and you will love seeing them all clean and fresh!
